Of many photographs I have taken, I noticed that there are many of old people. I thought there might just be something about them.

Unconsciously and instinctively, I want to know what it means getting older.

Sometimes they are alone by themselves, some other time they accompany each other.

This collection is just a rough observation on how older people spend their time, leisurely and productively.

I might be unhappy when I get older but I surely want to be knowledgeable.

I’ll have to see how this project evolves over the time during the course of my snapping around.

They are everywhere…like aliens to me.

I want to take photos that are meaningful and with purpose, not mere snapshots.
I don’t feel like taking more photos just because of that.

So is it going to be wedding-related photography?

…or Travel-related photography?

I wish to do something different and new, with a little bit of arrogance; that I can do better.

First of all, a pocket Ricoh GR Digital does not dissappoint for a 11′ x 17′ print, even for those photographs taken at ISO 1600.

Secondly, looking at the prints, it’s a totally new experience. A far cry from the computer screens. There are only 20 prints inside the book, I already want to have more prints so that I can enjoy more of them.

Some appears too sharpened in the final print, some are too contrasty between highlight and dark areas. They happened mainly due careless, or rather clueless post-processing. Gotta be more careful next time.

Next time?
I mean, I am addicted to looking at prints.

A good photobook must have a sense of narrative. Well, this book is nothing but a collection of photographs I took, nothing more. It is not specific to a project or body of work. It is not a portfolio as well, as I am not doing any commercial photography work. I am just enjoying the prints, the book.

Since there is no particular narrative, the sequence is not important. One photographs after another, they are just there to my liking.

Lastly, is it worth a physical object? It’s handcrafted and I think yes, it is. At least to me, with all the sentimental feelings I have.

I try to frame in terms of what I want to include.
I don’t think about pictures — when I am photographing.
When I am photographing I see life. That’s all there is. . . .
[I am not a picture.] You’re not a picture.

I have posted two photographs below. They were taken separately, the first was in June 2005 and the last one was just a few days ago.

So what comparison I want to make here? Nothing.
I definitely am not thinking about pictures. I am just envying those camera, lens and bag…wished I had one. That’s life!
